A birthday message from our Founder and Executive Director
Every year is another opportunity to serve with purpose.
As I celebrate another birthday, I find myself thinking about the people who helped me grow, the lessons that shaped me, and the community that continues to make this work possible.
Palmer House is built on a simple belief. People deserve to be met with dignity, compassion, and practical support. This month’s stories show what that belief looks like when community members choose to honor a loved one, encourage a student, or give what they can.

August is a meaningful month for me personally, but the celebration is larger than one birthday. It is a celebration of every person who has carried the Palmer House mission forward through service, generosity, partnership, and prayer.
As families begin a new school year, we are reminded that confidence often starts with the basics. School supplies, books, encouraging words, nutritious food, emotional wellness, and trusted relationships can help a child or caregiver feel more prepared for what comes next.
I am especially moved by the young people featured in this edition. Kaelyn and Jordyn continue to honor their sister, Essence, through an annual gift of school supplies and books. The Ebonies Teens Group also brought supplies and handwritten encouragement. Their actions remind us that service has no minimum age.
Thank you for celebrating with me by continuing to care for families and invest in our community. Every act of kindness adds something meaningful to the future we are building together.
